Shopping Black Friday sales? Get started now.
Some of the nation’s biggest retailers – including Walmart, Target, Best Buy and Kohl’s – have already begun their sales and more will start ahead of Black Friday proper.
And with the exception of Walmart, most deals are available in stores and online, while supplies last. Walmart’s sale kicked off Monday online and stores will open 5 a.m. Friday with most of the same sale items.
But the hard-to-find Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, which quickly sold out in Walmart’s online sale, will not be available in-store because they were online-only offers.
For the second year, most major retailers will keep stores closed on Thanksgiving. (See the list including what stores also are open here.)

For years, Thanksgiving and Black Friday have marked the official kickoff to the holiday shopping season and the time of year when shoppers get focused on holiday spending.
That rush of spending gave Black Friday its name, as in the time of year when retailers were “in the black.” For nearly a decade, that official kickoff has been creeping ever closer to Thanksgiving, eating into time people used to spend around the holiday table.
But the second holiday shopping season of the pandemic continues to be different from past years.
This year, shoppers should expect a triple whammy with fewer deals, more items out of stock and shipping delays due to ongoing supply chain bottlenecks.
More shoppers are expected to show up in stores than last Black Friday, which was the “quietest in 20 years” as real-life foot traffic plummeted due to pandemic fears, according to a Coresight Research report.
Online shopping is expected to continue to grow. The National Retail Federation, the nation’s largest retail trade group, expects that holiday sales gain could shatter last year’s record-breaking season even with higher prices expected.
