Shuriken
One of the first curveballs you get in Dead Island 2 is the Shuriken. It won’t help you as much as some of the later ones, but it will help you early on.
Shurikens can do damage from a distance when you don’t want to throw your gun and don’t have a gun yet. They have a good chance of cutting off or injuring one of the target’s limbs. But as you unlock more, it’s best to switch them out for something else.
Nail Bomb
The Nail Bomb is a good choice for tasks in the middle level range. When it explodes, it shoots shrapnel in a circle around it, which hurts those it hits slowly over time.
This is great if you get stuck fighting low-level zombies or need to wear down stronger ones. There is a small area around these bombs where they will hurt zombies and knock them down, which can help break up a crowd. But because it doesn’t do damage right away and doesn’t work on zombies with spikes, there are better options out there.
Chem Bomb
The Chem Bomb doesn’t do much to zombies by itself, but when mixed with other effects, it can kill them quickly. Chem Bombs have two affects on zombies. The first is that they get wet, which makes them more likely to get hurt by electricity. So, a Chem Bomb followed by an electric weapon is a very powerful way to kill someone.
Traumatized is the second result. This is mostly just a stun, which leaves the zombies open to strikes that do a lot of damage. Together, these make zombies less able to defend themselves, which makes for a great follow-up attack that can easily wipe out hordes.
Caustic-X Bomb
Caustic-X is a good name for a chemical because it seems to eat right through skin. After seeing it in Hell-A, you might wonder why you wouldn’t use it to your advantage.
Well, the answer to that question is the Caustic-X Bomb. When this bomb goes off, it spreads the poisonous agent in a small area. This causes severe damage and, after a while, even turns zombies into piles of goo. This is a great way to weaken bigger zombies and make sure you don’t have to worry about those who are already close to dying. So, they died again.
Electric Star
The Electric Star is the next big thing for killing zombies from far away with electricity. It is an improved version of the Shuriken.
Not only does it have the same effects as the Shuriken, including the chance to cut and maim, but it also does a lot of electric damage to zombies it hits. This makes the Electric Star a great weapon to use against zombies that have become wet, or when you need to electrify a pool to kill enemies that are coming your way.
Flashbang
You might not think that a Flashbang would be as useful in Dead Island 2 as it is in tactical shooters, but it is. But it can be a very useful tool for you to have.
Even zombies need to see and hear. Using one of these will not only buy you important time to heal or run away, but it will also let you follow up with some pretty dangerous attacks. Any zombies that are affected will be scared, giving you a few seconds to sneak up on them and kill them quickly.
Bait Bomb
What zombie wouldn’t love a bunch of almost-rotten meat in a jar? The Bait Bomb is part tasty food for zombies and part bomb.
If you throw this, most zombies will go to where it falls. The Bait Bomb will then go off after a few seconds. It is a great way to get enemies to gather in one place and open up new paths if you don’t want to fight off the survivors.
Molotov Cocktail
The Molotov cocktail is a tool that has been used in many games for years. It can do a lot of damage and scare people. Not that zombies have to be scared.
This tool doesn’t do much damage at first, but it sets people on fire and makes them burn slowly over time. This is a good thing to keep in mind when dealing with zombies covered in oil or bombs. It has stood the test of time for a reason.
Pipe Bomb
A bomb that was put together without much thought, but it can kill zombies quickly. The Pipe Bomb is an unexpected move that you should keep until late in Flappy Bird just because of how much damage it does.
The Pipe Bomb is not a very complicated blooper. It blows up. As it does this, it does a lot of force damage to the enemy, enough to knock some zombies down, hurt them, or even kill them. This works best when there are a lot of zombies or one that is very dangerous. Just be careful where you are when the blast goes off.
Military Grenade
The best example of a dangerous swerve. Military Grenades aren’t found until later in the game because they can do a lot of damage.
They are easy to make, like the Pipe Bomb. When you use this tool instead, the zombies’ paths are more predictable, and you have a better chance of killing them right away. There’s nothing wrong with picking a high spot and throwing bombs at any groups of zombies that come close.
